What is Open Access Colonoscopy?

The Open Access Colonoscopy program allows a healthy, age-appropriate patient with no gastrointestinal symptoms to schedule a screening colonoscopy with Dr. Chung without an initial consultation visit before the procedure. The exchange of all needed pre-procedural information is done over the phone. This saves the patient both time and the co-pay expense of an office visit.

Who is eligible for Open Access Colonoscopy?

You may be eligible for Open Access Colonoscopy if you meet the following criteria:

  • Age 45 to 75

  • No prior colonoscopy OR last colonoscopy was more than 10 years ago and without any history of precancerous polyps

  • Not taking blood thinning medications (e.g. Coumadin, Plavix, Eliquis, Xarelto, etc), except Aspirin

  • No history of heart or lung disease

  • No recent gastrointestinal symptoms (e.g. abdominal pain, abrupt change in bowel habits, blood in the stool). A formal consultation in Dr. Chung's office is indicated in patients with symptoms, although a colonoscopy may eventually be a part of the evaluation.

How does the program work?

If you are interested in scheduling an Open Access Colonoscopy, please fill out our HIPAA-secure online form for our review. You may access our form here. Our office staff will review your form to determine your eligibility and verify your insurance benefits. We will contact you by phone within 5 business days. If you are eligible for Open Access Colonoscopy, we will schedule your colonoscopy with Dr. Chung over the phone. If you are not eligible, we will schedule a consultation visit for you prior to having your colonoscopy scheduled.
